The Smiling Seahorse and the dive team working on the boat are true Myanmar liveaboard specialists. Departing from Ranong in Thailand, close to the border the Smiling Seahorse works most of diving season in Myanmar with only a few trips to Thailand. The dive team are extremely passionate about diving in Myanmar and this clearly shows with the boat’s exceptional reviews and the high number divers who return to dive from the Smiling Seahorse.

The Smiling Seahorse came into service in October 2018, replacing the popular Myanmar liveaboard the MV Thai Sea. The boat is essentially brand new and specially designed with divers in mind featuring a choice of cabin types and a functional camera room for underwater photographers. As well as a choice of cabins to suit your budget the MV Smiling Seahorse offers four different itineraries for even greater flexibility when choosing your Burma liveaboard adventure.
Choose from six to seven day trips to the Mergui Archipelago or eight to nine day trips that also include the Burma Banks. The Smiling Seahorse is one of only a very few number of vessels that also offers diving around the Andaman Islands in India.
The Smiling Seahorse is a real divers boat and one of our highest recommendations for diving in Myanmar. The boat is run by a French couple who have explored the Mergui Archipelago extensively. The trips are designed to give you the best diving experience possible and the staff know the dive sites better than anyone. Although the boat could take more passengers the maximum number of divers is limited to only 16 with a maximum of 4 divers per guide. This ensures the remote Myanmar dive sites are never over crowded.
The dive deck is spacious with decent camera facilities. The dingy is always available for support and the boat crew are professional, helpful and attentive. It is clear from the start that this operation is run by real divers.
The MV Smiling Seahorse is competitively priced within the budget range of Myanmar liveaboards though it’s thoughtful design and available amenities provide a more mid range standard for guests with ample room to relax onboard on board. The sun deck offers shaded and non shaded areas and plenty of places to hang your hammock for lazy surface intervals. If you are feeling more active you can take a kayak and explore the mangroves that fringe many of the Archipelago’s larger islands or explore remote white sandy powdered beaches.
Guests are well spoilt with a choice of Asian, European and barbecued cuisine at meal times. Again and again we hear guests raving about the dining experience on the Smiling Seahorse.
