A Similan liveaboard trip on board The Junk offers more than just four days great diving. The nostalgic tale began in the Andaman sea in 1962. The Junk was originally launched as part of a small merchant fleet transporting charcoal from Burma to Singapore. Later it made several movie appearances including James Bond in 1974. It was converted into a diving boat in 1997. No other Similan liveaboard boasts this heritage. The Junk offers a truly unique experience.

OVERVIEW

The Junk or correctly named, June Hong Chian was completely restored in 1998 as a luxurious Similan liveaboard. Using traditional Chinese carpenters and the best teak wood the Junk has lost none of her traditional charm. The boat runs typical four day Similan trips or longer six day trips that include diving around the Surin Islands for a maximum of 18 divers.

Three cabin types, furnished in the Junk’s traditional teak wood style, feature individual air-conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with hot water. Different cabin configurations offer both exceptional value for money or private, spacious luxury.

DIVING

A large shaded dive deck offers each diver their own personal set-up area and storage crate, supplied with a personal deck towel and surface marker buoy for the duration of the trip. To maximise safety, dive site drops off and pick-ups are conducted from a spacious dinghy. This ensures you hit the site’s sweet spots when you enter and get picked up immediately when you surface.

The Junk is suitable for divers of all experience levels and also offers a range of diving courses. You will be in the safe hands of the boat’s experienced dive guides, with thorough safety briefings, dive briefings and extensive local knowledge.

RELAXATION

Relaxing on the Deck of The Junk in Thailand

The Junk features shaded open deck areas, a sundeck with sun beds and an indoor salon which can be cooled by either fan or air-conditioning. All relaxation areas blend seamlessly with the nostalgic feel of the liveaboard. Delicious, highly rated Thai and International cuisine is served buffet style with the choice of shaded outdoor or indoor dining areas.

With fresh fruits and snacks always available between meal times, it is almost guaranteed you will not go hungry aboard the junk. Should you tire of idyllic, tropical island views there is also a TV, a library of movies, books and games.
