After the success of our first Off The Chart Raja Ampat in 2017 we are thrilled to welcome you to our next remote location adventure…
The Banda Islands are a volcanic group of ten small islands in the Banda Sea. The main town is Bandanaira, located on the island of the same name. They rise out of a 6 kilometre ocean and have a total land area of 45.6km squared, with a population of 18,544. Until the mid-19th century the Banda Islands were the world’s only source of nutmeg and mace, produced from the nutmeg tree.
More recently the Banda Island have grown in fame due to their pristine coral reefs that flourish on these volcanic islands and their visiting pelagics.
The Banda Islands are approximately 140 km south of Seram Island and about 2,000 km east of Java. To begin our trip you will need to fly to Ambon where you will meet the Panunee crew. Any one arriving in Ambon early might want to check out diving in Ambon first divebluemotion.com

Off the Chart and MV Panunee align so well on so many factors; Thai food, purpose built dive vessel, passion for exploring undiscovered wildernesses, and a passion for photography.
Panunee is a 36m luxury yacht designed by divers offering fantastic liveaboard scuba diving adventures in Indonesia. With only 17 guests taken onboard it is incredibly spacious and has a crew that see to your every need.
The chef onboard is Thai, therefore makes some amazing Thai dishes. The menu onboard is varied and plentiful, with a variety of Indonesian feasts and local cuisine.
If you have any special dietary requirements please make sure you inform us.
You will awaken to fresh fruits, hot entrees, cereals and juices. Lunches are buffet-style, featuring delicious local cuisine. Dinners are served each evening and include salads, vegetables, seafood, beef or chicken. Once onboard, please speak to the chef about any special needs. Certain special dietary and beverage requests may not be available due to the remote nature of this location.
The Panunee selection includes fruit juices, soft drinks, iced water, iced tea, coffee, and a limited selection of local beer. Due to the high duty charged on liquor, we suggest you bring your special brand from duty free. Drinking and diving do not mix. Once you consume alcohol, you become a snorkeler until the next day.
There is a variety of nightly entertainment, including a manta presentation from Steph, movies, games and more. If you have a favourite movie, digital presentation or a video to share, we encourage you to bring it along. The crew especially love new releases of DVD’s, movies, CD’s, recent magazines and books. A small library of books for exchange is maintained onboard as well as fish identification books for reference.
The Panunee offers a complete digital photo department. The photo pro is available for free coaching with equipment rental. Guests should bring their own battery chargers. Please bring all necessary spares, O-rings, batteries etc
The specially purposed photography room allows plenty of room for charging, setting and maintenance of all your photography gear. Whether you have a go-pro or an extensive SLR set up there are charging stations aplenty. There is also plenty of room to edit your days work and plenty of books to hone your photography skills.
All crew onboard are well trained at handling precious camera equipment so you can rest assured that your gear is in safe hands. At Off the Chart, we are keen photographers and excited to share our techniques and passion. We hope to pick up some new tricks along the way.
Crew gratuities are not included in the charter. We believe gratuities should be voluntary and based upon the quality of service the crew has provided. When settling your account the Captain will have an envelope for gratuities that will be divided equally among the crew. Payment can only be made by cash.
The Banda Islands climate is tropical and therefore not always predictable. The water temperature varies from 28 – 30C/82 -86F and air temperature 25 – 27C/78 – 89F. These unique itineraries offer diving on healthy and vibrant reefs, seamounts, sheer walls, caves, beautiful coral gardens and magnificent critter dives. A 3mm wetsuit and hood is recommended.
The crew of the Panunee with their unique combination of talents, offers the ultimate service. While onboard, you may pick a buddy of your choice, or dive with one of the crew members. The yacht offers up to four dives per day (including night dives) and depending on the weather and itinerary.
The guides on board Panunee have spent many seasons developing their critter spotting skills and now are some of the best around for mega and macro lovers alike. The guides are happy to assist you find whatever is your passion, whether pelagics, endemics or macro life they will endeavor to find you some underwater treats. The guides will also give advice every dive whether it’s more appropriate for wide angle or macro lenses. Hairy octopus, Ambon scorpion fish, hammerheads and giant manta rays are among some of the treasures we will be hoping to photograph soon!
Enjoy fresh water showers on the back deck after your dives and dry off with a warm towel. All diving onboard the Panunee should be within the limits and standards of the training agency that certified you. All dives should be planned as no decompression dives.
Remember to bring your c-card or proof of certification. The divemaster requires proof of certification before the first dive.
We suggest you pack the following: mask, fins, snorkel, regulator with pressure gauge, depth gauge, buoyancy compensator, dive computer, dive light, mirror, safety sausage, Dive Alert and/or other safety devices. Although not required, a reef hook is suggested for occasional dives. Dive computers are mandatory for each guest. Each piece of gear should be marked with waterproof paint or tape.
A full line of rental gear is available aboard including regulators, BCs, dive computers, and night-lights.
The Panunee has a first aid kit onboard, including oxygen. You may want to bring motion sickness medication if you feel you will need it. We suggest you bring over-the-counter motion sickness medication or consult your doctor about prescription brands, such as the trans-dermal patch or Scopace tablets. Currents and winds may cause moderate movement of the yacht at times. We recommend a complete physical before your trip. There is a recompression chamber located in Bali.
Please bring any additional medications that you may need. Please remember that we are travelling to a very remote location so it’s much better too much. Better safe than sorry!
Please plan to travel light, as on all live-aboard dive yachts, space is limited. We recommend that you pack your gear in soft luggage such as a duffel bag for easy stowage and to add to your comfort in your cabin. Clothing should be lightweight, comfortable sportswear; sunscreen and swimsuits are a must. A light sweater or jacket is ideal for evenings. Dress is always casual and informal. Additional items you may want to bring are sunglasses and walking shoes for you time on shore.
Each guest must pay a park/port fee onboard at the end of the charter, this must be paid in USD: $250 USD per person
All payments can be made in USD eg beers, cans of soft drinks, tips etc.
Please remember that the area we are going to is extremely remote, we need to pack lightly however we also need to bring all spares and essentials with us.
Bring all camera spare, batteries/ O rings etc
Equipment spares O rings etc
Medical supplies
We would also like a suggestion that each guest bring a small amount of food that is special to their home country. We can have a buffet together and try each others favourite home nation food.
